The Red Castle in Hradec nad Moravicí

The castle Hradec nad Moravicí is located in Hradec nad Moravicí (German Grätz) in the Okres Opava , Moravian Silesia .

As early as the 9th century, the Slavs built a fortress on the site of the castle. This was first replaced by a princely castle and in the second half of the 13th century by a stone castle . At the end of the 16th century, Kaspar Proskowski von Proskau carried out significant alterations to the medieval castle. These were only ended after the Thirty Years' War. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was occupied by the Swedes and re-conquered by imperial troops under Georg von Proskowsky. In March 1745, during the Second Silesian War , Prussian troops under Balthasar Friedrich von der Goltz occupied the castle. In 1778 Prince Lichnowsky acquired the castle, who had it rebuilt in the modern Empire style in 1796. In the second half of the 19th century, F. Handel built the so-called “Red Castle”, which resembled an old German medieval castle, and the “White Tower” on the south side. The interior is reminiscent of the stays of important personalities in the music world, such as B. Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Liszt .
