Balthasar Friedrich von der Goltz

Baron Balthasar Friedrich von der Goltz (* December 20, 1708 on Gut Heinrichsdorf ; † May 6, 1757 outside Prague ) was a royal Prussian colonel and commander in infantry regiment No. 33 . He was also the commander of a grenadier battalion, knight of the Pour le Mérite and heir to Heinersdorf, Reppow and Langenhof.

Life

He was the son of Henning Bernhard von der Goltz and his wife Maria Katharina von Heidebreck . His brothers Karl Christoph von der Goltz and Georg Konrad von der Goltz became Prussian generals.

In November 1726 he joined Infantry Regiment No. 20 as a flag junior , in 1727 he became an ensign and in 1730 a lieutenant. During the First Silesian War he was adjutant to Major General von Kalckstein in the Battle of Mollwitz . On April 20, 1741 he was appointed captain and was present at the siege and conquest of the Brieg fortress . On October 25, 1741, he was promoted to major and was transferred to Fusilier Regiment No. 42 . In the Second Silesian War he received his own grenadier battalion, which was formed from the grenadier companies of Garrison Regiment No. 8 and Fusilier Regiment No. 42. Under the command of Lieutenant General Heinrich Karl von der Marwitz , he fought with these troops in Upper Silesia . In March 1745 he captured the Grätz Castle. The attempts by the Austrians to recapture the castle failed. Von der Goltz was awarded the Pour le Mérite order for this. On May 9, 1747 he was appointed lieutenant colonel, and he also received a gift of 500 thalers from the king, who also transferred him to Glatz as commander of regiment no. 33 under Heinrich August de la Motte Fouqué . In winter he was often a guest in Potsdam and Berlin . On September 17, 1753 he was appointed colonel. When the Seven Years War broke out, he was part of the army under Kurt Christoph von Schwerin , which advanced to Bohemia. In the battle of Prague on May 6, 1757, he led his regiment in the assault on the heights of Bohemian Brod . He died, hit by several bullets.

He was married to Henriette Johanne Konstantina von Manteuffel (* February 4, 1718, † October 20, 1785) since September 27, 1742. She was the daughter of the Electoral Saxon Minister Ernst Christoph von Manteuffel and from 1761 was the first lady-in-waiting of the Princess of Nassau-Weilburg . After his death, the widow married Albrecht von Hammerstein on October 23, 1765.
