Gradisch Castle (2006)

Gradisch Castle is a Renaissance building built in the middle of the 16th century in the town of the same name in the south of the municipality of Feldkirchen in Carinthia .

history

At the site of the present-day castle there was possibly a medieval residence , which is also indicated by the current name, because Gradisch means something like ' Burgstall ', i.e. a place where a castle once stood. If this was the case, this original building was probably named "Paradeis" after the local noble family. The Paradeiser were ministerials of the Carinthian dukes and can be traced back to 1192, when Wernhardus de Paradyso was named as a witness in a document . Their residence was first mentioned in a document in 1250, but it is not certain whether it was a castle on the site of today's Gradisch Castle or the Prägrad Castle . In the 14th century, the family's track was initially lost.

In 1550 Ferdinand I. Georg von Neuhaus-Paradeiser awarded the truce for his newly built Gradisch residence. Eva Regina Paradeiser sold the castle in 1652 to the Salzburg vice cathedral Johann Freiherr von Platz. In 1729, Polykarp Josef Graf Platz sold the rule to Johann Anton from the secondary school of Count Goëss . Gradisch was converted into a Fideikommiss and is still owned by the Goëss family today. The building is a listed building .

Building description

Gradisch Castle is located on the northern slope of the Gallin and can be seen from afar. The original renaissance building is a three-storey cube with ox-eye openings in the attic . Two strongly protruding round and wood-clapboard corner towers, which are covered with onion helmets and crowned by lanterns, are built diagonally opposite. The palace chapel is located in the southwest tower. In the 17th century, two two-storey outbuildings were added to the south, the three wings enclose a rectangular courtyard that is accessible through a round-arched west and a grooved east portal.
