Hauenstein Castle

The Castle Hauenstein ( Czech Hauenštejn or Zámek Horní Hrad ) is located three kilometers west of Stráž nad Ohri on the territory of the municipality Krásný Les ( Schönwald ), district of Horni Hrad , in a tributary of the upper Egertals in Karlovy Vary District in the Czech Republic .

history

The original castle was likely built on this site in the late 13th century. Frequent changes in ownership and extensive renovations in the 19th century changed the appearance. In 1838 the Buquoy counts bought the castle and owned it until the end of the Second World War . After 1945 it served as accommodation for some time, from 1958 it fell into ruin. It is now being renovated again for tourism.

The castle can be reached via the E 442 / road no. 13, Horní Hrad junction.
