Hornstein Castle stands on a wooded slope north of Krumpendorf . Ulrich Hornsteiner built the castle in the 15th century. Around the middle of the 18th century the castle was owned by the Counts of Ursenböck. In 1757 they received a measurement license for the castle chapel from the Lavant bishop Johann Baptist von Thurn und Taxis . In 1865 Otto Daublesky Freiherr von Sterneck acquired the castle. Today the property is privately owned. In the middle of the 19th century, Markus Pernhart drew the castle as part of his castle cycle.

description

The castle is a small, three-axis, cubic structure with a hipped roof. In the north-east and south-west corner there are two diagonally opposite, round corner towers with flat conical roofs. There is a later extension on the north side. The double coat of arms of Sterneck-Dickmann was attached to the rusticated arched portal around 1860. There is a damaged, baroque double coat of arms with a putto on the wall at the entrance to the courtyard .
