Markus Pernhart
Markus Pernhart (born July 28, 1824 in Untermieger (after SBL in Obermieger, today part of the market town of Ebenthal); † March 30, 1871 in Klagenfurt ; actually: Markus also Marko Pernat [h]) was a Carinthian Slovenian / Austrian painter romantic Landscape impressions. According to the Slovenian biographical lexicon , he is considered to be the first Slovenian realistic landscape painter.
Life
Markus Pernhart was born as the eldest child of a carpenter from St. Veit im Jauntal . He probably visited Tainach the elementary school . Early he started u. a. To paint beehive end boards and offered his early humorous works at the Klagenfurt weekly market. When he was barely 12 he painted the dining rooms of the Krajcar restaurant between Klagenfurt and Völkermarkt . The innkeeper made the episcopal chaplain Henr. Hermann noticed the talented boy. At the age of 15 he first learned to paint from Andreas Hauser in Klagenfurt. Hermann continued to support him and brought him together with his patron, the Gorizia Archbishop Franz Xaver Luschin (Franc Lušin), who was also a native of Tainach. Hermann probably introduced him to Eduard von Moro . Through this he came into contact with the Viennese art scene, in particular with Franz Steinfeld , who taught there at the Academy of Fine Arts . He was placed on the Munich Academy , but soon returned to Carinthia . There he advanced to become the most famous landscape painter of his time under his stage name Pernhart .
Castles and palaces in Carinthia
When Pernhart's drawing style had fully developed, Max von Moro asked him to draw all of the castles and palaces in Carinthia. The idea was to preserve these buildings, if they could often not be preserved for financial reasons, at least in the picture and thus to keep them from decay. Markus Pernhart did not disappoint his client and recorded the smallest details in pencil drawings of the well-preserved, but also of the partly dilapidated facilities. In 1853 he made 40 drawings, later up to 198, which are the property of the History Association for Carinthia . In 1855 the Carinthian estates presented Empress Elisabeth with an album with 21 drawings, to which Max Moro contributed the explanations. Under the title Pictures from Carinthia they appeared in deliveries between 1863 and 1868 as steel engravings with accompanying texts. After his death five lithographic panorama pictures appeared (Klagenfurt 1875 and 1889).
For the Carinthian and Slovenian cultural history in general, his drawing of the Fürstenstein in situ in Karnburg is particularly important, as this is the only evidence of its original location.
Beginning leisure society
Pernhart depicted landscapes, preferably lake and high mountain motifs or castles, but also animal and still life themes, in an idyllic and pathetic style. His works are to be seen against the background of an incipient leisure society, they show the regional status objects of his homeland.
estate
Markus Pernhart died on March 30, 1871 in house number 28 on Klagenfurt's Sankt Veiter Ring, probably of his abdominal ailments, and was buried in the St. Ruprecht cemetery in Klagenfurt. His entire painted oeuvre consists of around 1,200 pictures, which enjoy great esteem even after his death.
In Slovenia, 8 pictures are preserved in the Slovenian National Gallery in Ljubljana, 4 of which are from the Šmarna gora from the estate of Bishop Jernej Widmer, which were acquired by the Kranjska hranilnica (Sparkasse), some of them are in private ownership.
The house where he died fell victim to the pickaxe in the second half of 2004 in favor of a shopping center. Only the adjacent photos are reminiscent of Pernhart's last residence.
