Krasiczyn Castle

The Krasiczyn Castle (Polish: Zamek w Krasiczynie ) is located in the village of the same name in the powiat Przemyski of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship .

The fortified castle was since the establishment of the family seat of the Castellan of Przemyśl , Stanisław Krasicki, since the 17th century the voivode of Lublin in January Tarło, since the 30s of the 19th century Austrian statesman, chairman of the Galician parliament Prince Leon Sapieha . After the Second World War , the castle was nationalized and a forestry vocational school was set up in the castle rooms. In the seventies the castle was taken over by the Warsaw Automobile Works as a rest home, since 1996 the castle became the property of the Agency for Industrial Promotion, which carried out the renovation work. The descendants of the princely Sapieha family have been trying to legally reclaim the castle since 2013.

architecture

The archaeological excavations in the castle courtyard proved that there were four peasant huts on the site in ancient times. Ten graves from the early Middle Ages were also found.

Since Krasiczyn was on the southern edge of the Poland-Lithuania, it was constantly threatened by raids by Turks and Tatars. That is why the Italian architect Galeazzo Appiani chose the shape of a closed rectangle with a magnificent arcaded courtyard and four round bastions at the outer corners of the building.

Over the centuries the castle was expanded and rebuilt several times, but it kept its basic rectangular shape.

The living spaces were built along the north and east outer walls. The main entrance passed under a slender tower in the middle of the west wing. The outer walls were crowned with decorative parapets .

The four round bastions had different shapes. The "Divine" was provided with a dome and contained the castle chapel. The "papal" was provided with an attic, which carried copies of the papal tiara of Clement VIII over a decorative frieze . In this bastion, guest rooms were provided for church dignitaries. The “royal” with a pointed conical roof and six equally roofed turrets housed the king's rooms. The "noblewoman" wore a typical Polish attic with many pinacles .

The outer walls were decorated with sgraffiti , some of which have been restored.

The castle was entered on June 26, 1968 under A-321 in the register of architectural monuments of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship.
