Alexander Iwannikow ( Russian Александр Иванников ; born January 23, 1945 in Moscow ) is a former Soviet ski jumper .

Career

Ivannikov, who started for Dynamo Moscow, made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1962/63 . After a 23rd place in Oberstdorf , he surprisingly landed tenth on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck . After he broke off his tour despite this good result, he only landed 55th overall. A year later at the Four Hills Tournament in 1963/64 he started eighth on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf and tenth in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , before he reached his first and only podium in Innsbruck with second place behind the Finn Veikko Kankkonen . After he achieved another good result with 14th place in Bischofshofen , he finished fourth in the overall ranking after all four competitions.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 he was one of the favorites after his good touring performance at the age of only 19 and was also the youngest ski jumper in the Soviet team. In the end, however, he only finished 17th on the normal hill. Ivannikow jumped to a good sixth place on the large hill.

For the Four Hills Tournament 1964/65 Iwannikow did not manage to build on the previous tour. After jumping only to 20th place in Oberstdorf, he broke off the tour and ended up only 26th in the overall ranking. For the first time he competed in all four jumping competitions at the Four Hills Tournament in 1965/66 . But after a sixth place in Oberstdorf was the best result, it was only 11th overall. After a year break, he started again in the Four Hills Tournament between 1967 and 1971, but did not get above 15th place in the overall ranking, which he reached at the Four Hills Tournament 1969/70 . At the Janez Polda Memorial on March 22, 1970 on the normal hill in Planica he came second.

After the Four Hills Tournament in 1970/71 , which he finished in 17th place overall, he ended his active career a year later with the start at the Ski Flying World Championships in 1972 , where he reached 30th place in individual flying .
