Krockow Castle

Schloss Krockow ( Polish Pałac w Krokowej ) is a castle in Poland Krokowa , Pomeranian Province . From the end of the 13th century to 1945 it belonged to the family of the same name, which probably came from Franconia and came to the country with the Teutonic Order .

history

Presumably there had been a knight's seat in the place since the end of the 13th century . Over the years, this was expanded into a small castle , which was surrounded by a rampart and moat . At the end of the 16th century, the castle consisted of a two-story building with corner towers, which was surrounded by a defensive wall over an area of 60 × 70 meters . In the 17th century, walls and ramparts were torn down because they had lost their function. The main house was extended by two wings and an Italian garden and on the other side of the castle island an orchard and fish pond.

Due to economic difficulties, the property had to be auctioned in 1782, but was bought by another line, that of von Krockow. The new owner, Louise von Krockow, had the palace redesigned in a late Baroque style in 1784 .

After 1945 a plant nursery was housed in the castle. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the "Foundation for European Encounters - Kashubian Cultural Center Krockow" was founded. The castle was rebuilt for hotel and conference operations by 1994. The park has also been restored to its original form. The park has a remarkable find Magnolia acuminata , a trumpet tree , a ginkgo and a Riesenthuja . The so-called Philosophenallee commemorates Johann Gottlieb Fichte , who was tutor at Krockow Castle in 1791/92.

A branch of the West Prussian State Museum Münster is located in a former inn at the castle park , in which changing exhibitions are shown.
