Kurtwitz Castle
The Kurtwitz Castle ( Polish Pałac w Kondratowicach ) is a castle in Kondratowice (German Kurtwitz ) in the powiat Strzeliński in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .
history
In the 15th century, a moated castle was built on the site of today's castle , which later developed into a permanent house . This was owned by Baron August von Liegnitz (1627–1679), a son of Brieger Duke Johann Christian von Brieg . Since August came from his father's improper marriage to Anna Hedwig von Sitzsch (1611–1639), he was not entitled to inheritance and was not allowed to use the title of duke.
After 1700 a baroque castle with three wings was built on the foundations of the old house . This came to the Count of Zierotin towards the end of the 18th century . In 1868 it was acquired by the manor owner August Andreas Rohde, who had a sugar beet factory built in Kurtwitz. In 1891 he initiated an extensive reconstruction of the castle in the style of neoclassicism and the French neo-Renaissance . His descendants owned the castle until 1945.
Kurtwitz fell to Poland in 1945, together with almost all of Silesia . The castle was handed over as the administrative seat of an agricultural production cooperative. It was later used as a kindergarten, community center and cultural center. In 1973 it was renovated. It was only listed as a historical monument in 2003 . Today the castle belongs to a German seed breeding company and is in very good condition.
