Labach Castle

Labach Castle (sometimes also known as Lambach , Labmpach or Labenbach ) is located in the Wilhelmsdorf district of the Stuhlfelden municipality in the Zell am See district in the state of Salzburg (Wilhelmsdorf 1).

history

As early as 1352, the Lopach estate is mentioned, which Archbishop Ortolf von Weißeneck then sold to his brother Heinrich. Archbishop Pilgrim donates the good to Lobach da Andre in 1393 as a benefit for the St. Ubald Altar in Salzburg Cathedral . Other owners were Nikolaus Köll (1410), Zacherl (1465), Peter Chlamer (around 1490), Erasmus von Moslehen (around 1510), Wolfgang Gauter (around 1520), Andreas Entgasser (1523), known as the Lappacher .

He sells the property to Melchior Welser, owner of the waiter's office in Stuhlfelden, and his wife Emerenz Oberndorfferin. An inscription on a marble plaque with an alliance coat of arms reports on the renovation of the house by these owners (" This house was built by Melchior Welser, Khellner zu Stuelfelden and Emerenz Oberndorfferin his housewife with God's blessing for their heirs and descendants in 1591 "). Abraham Welser and his son Adam Welser zu Labenbach and Wagrain follow in possession . In 1680 the impoverished Welser family sold the property to Martin Doldy von Purk near Mittersill. His underage children sold the property to Bartelme Perger and his wife in 1681. In 1685 the castle was sold to Ruep Prießler vom Lechen in Mittersill and his wife. In 1695 Maria Anna, née von Prochenperg, and her husband Martin Löcker von Kronenkreuz followed. At that time Labach was still surrounded by a wall. In 1707 the son Martin Löcker took over the castle, but died childless. His widow sold the castle to Josef Jell († 1755) in 1751. He is inherited by his parents, his father Josef Jell, the Prince's Oberwald Master of Salzburg, and his mother, Maria Marschallerin. In 1765 they sold the property to the farmer Bartelme Pfeffer.

From this point on, Labach remains in peasant hands. Maria Scharler (1771) followed, then her daughter Gertraud Scharler. In 1790 Johannes Hölzl and his wife bought the property. They are followed by their son Johann. In 1851 the niece Eva Hölzl came into the possession of the castle, who married Matthias Lemberger that year. Ferdinand Steinberger is currently the owner of the castle.

Labach Castle today

The late Gothic, aristocratic residence is reminiscent of a stately farmhouse. There are vaults in the house . The chapel and the paneled rooms with their inventory and the tram ceilings are worth seeing. In 1699 the chapel was equipped with a baroque altar with the coat of arms of Prochenperg and the crown cross. The carved wall decorations are still of medieval origin. The pastor wrote of this chapel as early as 1648: " It is decorated in such a way that the capellas in Mittersill Castle are noticeably surpassed ."
