Niedergebra Castle is a former moated castle in Schäfereigasse in Niedergebra ( Thuringia ), which was converted into a moated castle from 1730 to 1735 .

history

The formerly belonging estate belonged to the Counts of Hohnstein in the Middle Ages . In 1550 Volkmar Wolf von Hohnstein enfeoffed his chancellor Peter von Bötticher (ennobled in 1563) with the estate as a hereditary fief. Peter von Bötticher sold the Blauer Hof, whose value he was able to increase by acquiring the shepherd's rights, in 1562 for 3,114 guilders to Christoph vom Hagen auf Deuna . His descendant, Freiherr Friedrich Philipp vom Hagen (1683–1754) was the royal district administrator of the County of Hohnstein, now under Prussian rule . He was able to increase the property considerably by acquiring two neighboring manors : in 1729 he acquired the von Bodungen manor , in 1736 the Dransfeld manor. At the same time he had the castle built as a moated castle between 1730 and 1736 . Because of its slate roofing, the castle was also called the “Blue Court”.

After the descendants of the owners were expropriated without compensation in 1945 and had to leave the castle, it became an after-work and nursing home from 1950. In 2002, the building was sold by the owner, the Nordhausen District Office , to a private person from North Hesse who wanted to use it as a family seat and set up an accommodation facility. In 2012, a theater performance took place in the festival hall on the day of the open monument.

building

The three-storey manor house, built from solid quarry stone masonry, has a square tower at each of the four corners. These corner towers are provided with strong corner blocks and have baroque onion roofs. The facility is surrounded by a moat, over which a stone bridge leads to the entrance portal.

Due to a lack of maintenance, the lock is deteriorating more and more.
