The Pleß Castle is a castle in Pszczyna (Eng. Pleß ) in Upper Silesia ( Poland ).
history
A first castle was built in the 11th / 12th. Century and has been rebuilt several times. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Duchy of Ratibor , Duchy of Opava and Duchy of Teschen . Between 1548 and 1765 it belonged to the Promnitz family , 1765–1847 to the princes of Anhalt-Köthen-Pless and from 1847 to the Hochberg zu Pless family .
The castle was rebuilt from 1870–1876 in the neo- baroque style based on designs by the internationally known French architect Gabriel-Hippolyte Destailleur . During the First World War , the German headquarters was in the west wing of the palace from 1915 to 1917. The 3rd Supreme Army Command was formed there on August 29, 1916 from the leadership of Ober Ost Paul von Hindenburg and his chief of staff Erich Ludendorff .
Furnishing
"Highlights" of the palace are the view of the impressive park, the large staircase, the high hall of mirrors, in which concerts and lectures take place, as well as the historic interior furnishings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. You can also see the former apartment of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the armory. The historic farm buildings of the castle were completely renovated in early 2014 and are now also open to visitors. In the future, permanent and changing exhibitions will be housed there and various events will take place.
