Prackenberg Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The former Prackenberg castle was in the Prackenberg district of the St. Roman municipality in the Schärding district .

Ritter Pilgrim von Puchheim received in 1331 from the Bishop of Passau a. a. also Prackenberg Castle as a fief. In exchange for the fortress Litschau and Heidenreichstein , Prackenberg came to the sovereign in 1348 through Duke Albrecht II . It is documented that on July 28, 1477 a Vlrich Röchlingen sold the Ambthoff zw Prackenberg to Hans Pirchinger zu Sigharting . In a document from 1700, a bricked seat is called Präckhenberg . In 1799 Prankenberg or Prachenberg was a residence of the Counts Tattenbach .

The castle fell into disrepair in the 18th century. Around 1880 there were still parts that were torn down in 1881 and used as building material for the stables of the Bodenhofner farm. The building was on parcel no. 1651–1653 next to the Bodenhofner farm, who was known as a castle builder for a long time. Today there are no more remains of it.

A legend explains the origin of Prackenberg. A long time ago a castle is said to have stood on the Schöffberg on a place today called Hochwaldstein. This was inhabited by three brothers, the Prackenbergers.
