Reifnitz Castle ( Slovene : Grad Ribnica ob Vrbskem jezeru ) is a small castle near Reifnitz in the municipality of Maria Wörth , right on the southern shore of Lake Wörth .

history

It was built in 1898 for Adolf Heinrich Bercht (a later mayor of Klagenfurt ), according to plans by the Hamburg architect Professor Zenkonski. Since then there have been some renovations and additions, the rear of the castle consists almost entirely of a glass facade.

It was last bought by the Maria Wörth community and used as a gallery.

Sale to Magna:

At the end of 2005, the castle and seven hectares of land were bought by the automotive supplier Magna . The seller was the province of Carinthia through the Kärntner Tourismus-Holding, brokered by Jörg Haider . The purchase price was 6.4 million euros. Mathias Reichhold was the negotiator for Magna .

Neighboring residents and citizens' groups protested because they were of the opinion that the castle and property were sold too cheaply (at 92 euros per square meter). In addition, two hectares were rededicated in building land / spa area after the start of the sale, which means an increase in value. In addition, the process was criticized as a night and fog action (municipal council resolution December 22, 2004, 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. without public participation).

Magna planned to build a manager's recreation center in the area, which would consist of a three-and-a-half story hotel complex for 275 beds and 14 detached sea villas, as well as other buildings and sports facilities. However, this use did not occur, which, according to Magna, was due to a lack of profitability forecasts. Instead, Magna owner Frank Stronach and his former manager Siegfried Wolf bought the now renovated castle from Magna for 13.55 million euros. So far, you have only used the property privately. In 2013 it became known that the public prosecutor's office for business and corruption was investigating Frank Stronach, Siegfried Wolf as well as the mayor of the Carinthian community Maria Wörth and several councilors in connection with the purchases.
