history

Emergence

Reinach Castle appears for the first time in a document in the 17th century. Built as an estate, it was built next to a moated castle that was partially destroyed in the Thirty Years War . Only a round tower of this moated castle is preserved today.

The reason for the documentary mention of Reinach Castle was the wedding of the noblemen Hans Adam von Pforr and Maria Cleopha von Reinach . This also donated the baptismal font in St. Stephen's Church in Munzingen in 1626 and thus gave the first sign of the family's existence. In addition to the year 1626, the arms of the von Pforr and von Reinach families can also be seen on the baptismal font. Maria Cleopha was an important person and after her second marriage bequeathed the entire fortune to her nephew Beat Melchior von Reinach.

Von Kageneck family

Around 1750, the property became the property of the von Kageneck family . However, the details are unknown. Many structural features can be traced back to the present day thanks to the 250-year ownership of the von Kageneck family. As an estate, Reinach Castle was primarily used for agriculture.

In 1870 a fire almost completely destroyed the manor, so that structural changes were necessary. Until 1969, the entire property was still in full operation as one of the largest manors in the region.

Hotel and restaurant complex

In 1991 the entire property was restored and opened as a hotel, restaurant and conference center in 1993. After a short time, however, the operating company ran into financial difficulties and Schloss Reinach was run by an insolvency administration for almost three years. In 2007 the hotel became the property of the restaurateurs and hoteliers couple René and Beatrix Gessler, who modernized and expanded the entire hotel complex. The hotel is used by golfers, among others, and cultural events take place. There are several restaurants on the premises. The Herrehus restaurant was listed with one star in the Michelin Guide from 2014, and at the end of 2019 the owners announced a change in the gastronomy concept without the star.
