The Tuniberg is a limestone elevation in the Breisgau , which is 312.4  m above sea level. NHN rises only a little above the Upper Rhine Plain , which is around 190  m above sea level here .

geography

The Tuniberg is located in the Breisgau between the Black Forest and the Rhine , and is considered the “little brother” of the better-known Kaiserstuhl , although its geological structure is completely different. It has a north-south extension of about nine kilometers and an east-west extension of three kilometers. Around the Tuniberg are the communities Merdingen and Gottenheim , the districts of Waltershofen , Opfingen , Tiengen and Munzingen , which belong to Freiburg im Breisgau , and Oberrimsingen and Niederrimsingen , which belong to Breisach .

Agriculture

On the limestone soils, which are predominant here , with loess and clay layers, mainly Burgundy grape varieties grow, which benefit from the limestone's water storage capacity. In terms of viticulture, the Tuniberg has been separated from the Kaiserstuhl since 1996 . Apart from the wine, the growing of asparagus and corn on the Tuniberg is particularly noteworthy.

Leisure and Tourism

The Tuniberg is the destination of many vineyard hikers, Nordic walkers and cyclists and has been an insider tip for inline skiers and Nordic bladers for some time .
