Attila monument

Like the neighboring Oberrimsingen, Niederrimsingen is a district of the city of Breisach am Rhein .

The village on the southwestern edge of the Tuniberg is located 18 kilometers west of Freiburg im Breisgau and southeast of Breisach.

history

Niederrimsingen was mentioned for the first time in a document in 1275, and Rimsingen , which was later divided into Nieder- and Oberrimsingen, as early as 819.

On April 1, 1973 Niederrimsingen was incorporated into the city of Breisach am Rhein.

St. Laurentius Church

The tower of the church with its two arcade floors dates from the 11th century and is therefore one of the oldest in Breisgau. The church was badly damaged in a fire in the village in the last quarter of the 15th century, so that the choir and nave of the church had to be rebuilt. The now Gothic church underwent a Baroque renovation in the 18th century with new side altars and a new pulpit. In 1845 the church that surrounded the church was relocated. The tombstones of some pastors on the nave wall are still preserved today. The stained glass windows with the depictions of St. Laurentius, St. Martin and St. Conrad date from 1889. The high altar with ambo and tabernacle are the work of the Breisach sculptor Helmut Lutz and his pupil Christoph Bergmann from 1988. The The former Chapel of Olives in front of the church now serves as a memorial for the fallen of the two world wars.

Attila

According to a regional legend, the grave of Attila the Hun King is said to have been found time and again on the Tuniberg . The Attila rock and the vineyard are now known nationwide . It is said to have originated from an April Fool's joke by the wine cooperative board member Otto Fischer after the Second World War . On April 1, 1979, an Attila monument was unveiled in front of the Attila multipurpose hall. It was created by the local sculptor Rainer Stiefvater as a cement sculpture. It is 2.50 meters high and is very similar in shape and position to the heads of the Olmecs .
