Retzin Castle is a mansion in the village of Retzin, which belongs to Groß Pankow .

history

Retzin belonged to the Gans zu Putlitz family . An estate economy existed here from the 17th century. The manor house was built under Eduard Gans Edlen Herren zu Putlitz from 1815. From 1882 to 1884 it was redesigned in the style of the Italian Neo-Renaissance. As the residence of the poet Gustav Gans zu Putlitz , it was also used for theater and opera performances; A stage was installed in the attic. In one of the barns that belonged to the castle, the Rübezahl , for which Friedrich von Flotow had composed the music , was performed in 1852 . In 1856 Gustav Gans zu Putlitz commissioned the garden architect Eduard Neide to beautify the manor park.

Wedding party under the oak

The so-called "Great Oak" in the landscaped park that surrounds the castle was consecrated in 1910 on the occasion of the wedding of Adrienne zu Putlitz with Bernhard von Bülow and was later used as a church replacement if necessary.

The listed castle was bought by Lebenshilfe in 1992 and has been used as a dormitory for people with intellectual disabilities since 1995.
