Rollau Castle

Rollau Castle (also Rollav, Mierzhof, Mürzerhof or Mürzhof ) was a noble farm near the village of Mooskirchen in the Voitsberg district in Styria .

architecture

The original small fortification from the 13th century was converted into a moated castle in the 16th century during the Renaissance . The castle had a castle chapel , a tower above the entrance and corner towers on the regular, three-story building complex.

history

The building was originally named after its owner Mierzerhof . In 1590 the defense structure was demolished and a castle was built in its place by Adam and Friedrich Mierzer. In 1628 Sebastian Roll purchased the castle and was allowed to name the property Rollau . In 1677 the castle came into the possession of Maria Cällia Lodron and later passed to her husband Wolf Raymund von Kellersperg. Around 1730 it was connected to the rule of Groß-Söding . In 1748 the castle was demolished and the moat was filled in.

Vischer representation

When the Topographia Ducatus Stirae came out in 1681, there was also a Vischerstich of the Rollav Castle , which is the only representation of the moated castle. It is probable that Talhof or Thalhof Castle is depicted in the background, the location of which was previously unknown, but there is also a copper engraving of it .
