The XL 700 V Transalp is a motorcycle designed as a travel enduro by the vehicle manufacturer Honda and was built from 2007 to 2012.

history

The motorcycle was presented on October 2, 2007 at the Paris motorcycle fair Mondial du Deux Roues and was the fourth generation after the XL 400 V, XL 600 V and XL 650 V to be marketed under the name Transalp . The motorcycle was manufactured in Spain from 2007 to 2009 under the factory code RD 13, and from 2010 to 2012 in Italy under the factory code RD 15.

Technical specifications

drive

The liquid-cooled two - cylinder engine is technically derived from the Honda NT 700 V Deauville . The V-engine is installed transversely and has a cylinder bank angle of 52 degrees. The four-stroke engine produced from 680 cc a nominal power of 44 kW (60 hp) and a torque of 60 Nm at a speed of 6,000 min -1 . Each cylinder head has a chain-driven camshaft which controls two intake and two exhaust valves via rocker arms. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 172 km / h.

Power transmission

The power is separated by a cable-operated multi-plate clutch in an oil bath, the torque conversion by a claw-shift five-speed gearbox. The secondary drive is implemented with a chain drive.

Fuel supply and consumption

The mixture formation is carried out by one as programmed fuel injection ( PGM-FI ) called computer-controlled fuel injection . Each cylinder is ignited by a centrally located, transistor-controlled spark plug. The average fuel consumption is 5.5 liters per 100 km at a speed of 120 km / h. The fuel tank has a volume of 17.5 liters, of which 3 liters are in reserve. The manufacturer recommends using petrol with a knock resistance of at least 91 octane. The exhaust gas aftertreatment is carried out by a regulated catalytic converter with lambda probe and falls below the emission limit values of the Euro-3 emissions standard .

landing gear

The chassis is built on a double loop frame made of square steel tubing with a welded steel tail, the engine is supporting. The front wheel is guided by a telescopic fork , the rear wheel suspension consists of a Pro-Link swing arm and a progressively linked central spring strut. When ready to drive, the motorcycle weighs 219 kg, the maximum payload is 200 kg.

Reviews

“More important in this vehicle category are virtues suitable for everyday use, such as reliability, processing quality, ample torque curve and low consumption. (...) During the extremely quick explorations of the landscape, however, hardly more than five liters flowed through the injection nozzles and the radius of action tends towards an acceptable 300 kilometers. "

- Thomas Karsten : Touring driver, issue 10/2008

“The Transalp is an absolutely uncomplicated motorcycle that is easy to master without getting used to. It is very predictable, has no problematic pitfalls or unpleasant surprises and is so absolutely trustworthy. Compared to its predecessor, it has become much more manageable. The engine is more powerful, but it still doesn't pull any trees. However, the V2 has enough power for rapid progress, shines with a pleasant character and hardly requires any attention. "
