Schlanz Castle ( Polish : Pałac w Krzyżowicach ) is a well-preserved castle complex south of Wroclaw . The complex consists of a manor house, farm buildings and a garden.

history

The village of Schlanz is first recorded as Slanza in 1307 . At that time a residential tower was probably built, the remains of which can still be traced today. In 1574, under the von Saurma family, the building was expanded into a knight's seat with a tower and moat. Remnants of the wall are still preserved from this building. After 1550 the barons von Reichell owned the property. In 1713 they had a baroque manor house, a side wing and a servants' house built south of the existing knight's seat.

From 1854 Benno von Tschirscky-Reichell had the ensemble expanded by connecting the servants' house to a three-wing complex . After a fire, the main wing was restored in a mixture of neo-baroque and neo-renaissance styles , and two new stairwells, a bay window and a representative main portal were built. From 1908 to 1945 the Counts of Eulenburg owned the estate. In May 1945 Marie-Antoinette zu Eulenburg fled, but returned in May and resumed the farm.

After the region fell to the People's Republic of Poland, Gut Schlanz became an agricultural teaching and experimental farm of the University of Wrocław . A school center with a boarding school has been housed in the castle since 1989.

Inside, large parts of the historical wall decoration have been preserved. The garden is based on a baroque layout with high hedge walls . The castle can be visited in the afternoon after registration.
