history

Followers of the Bamberg bishop , who call themselves von Strazze , lived in Straß . A Wernhard von Strazze is mentioned between 1258 and 1277, a miles Otto von Strazze in 1278. This seat was probably the predecessor of Steinbach Castle.

The best-known owners of Steinbach Castle, which is already mentioned around 1300, are the Pernauer von Perney. Three tombstones on the outer wall of the parish church Behamberg tell of this family. In the 16th century, the Zelkinger and then the Hohenegger are on Steinbach . The latter were the lords of the castle until the 19th century. Steinbach Castle fell into disrepair around 1800.

Location of the former Steinbach Castle

The first-mentioned seat of the street is believed to be near the “landlord in the street”. The successor building, Steinbach Castle, is also located on a hill above the landlord in the street. The Mayer farm in Steinbach is located on the site of the former Meierhof .World icon
