Stonsdorf Castle

Stonsdorf Castle ( Polish : Pałac w Staniszowie ) is a castle in Staniszów ( Stonsdorf ) in the Jeleniogórski powiat ( Hirschberg district ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland. Today it houses a hotel.

history

The Stange family owned the village from the 14th century to the 18th century. Presumably, today's castle goes back to a fortress house from the 16th century. From 1726 the building was extended and baroque by the barons of Schmettau . The later owner Count Heinrich XXXVIII. Reuss zu Köstritz furnished the castle with a collection of old German panel paintings .

At the beginning of the 19th century, the palace was expanded to the south-west with a garden hall. It became one of the most important social centers in the region. The landscape park, which has been publicly accessible since then, with picturesque rock formations and idyllic park buildings, enjoyed great popularity.

After the transition to Poland in 1945, the castle was used as a children's rest home, later used by the local fire brigade, but fell into disrepair. Today the castle has been restored and the landscape park has also been restored by clearing the original paths and replanting.
