Schwaz Castle (Světec)

The baroque castle Světec (German Schwaz ) is located in Bohemia , in the municipality of the same name Světec in Okres Teplice . The castle is a single-wing, two-storey building with two baroque staircases and connects directly to the St. James Church to the south. Originally the monastery of St. Augustine of the Canons of the Holy Sepulcher , the order of women of the Knights with the Red Cross, stood here .

history

The new baroque palace was built in 1675–1682 by the Italian architect Antonio della Porta on the site of the old Romanesque monastery from the 13th century. The client was the Archbishop of Prague, Johann Joseph von Breuner . The castle park was laid out under Archbishop Wilhelm Florentin von Salm-Salm and connected to the Alois Heights by a promenade at the beginning of the 19th century under Archbishop Alois Josef Schrenk . The park is currently overgrown. The castle was reconstructed in 2003 and is the seat of the municipal office.

The castle also houses an exhibition by the painter and graphic artist Vojtěch Preissig , who was born in Schwaz .
