Tabor Castle
The Tabor Castle in Neuhaus am Klausenbach is located in the three-country Raab nature park in the border region of Austria , Hungary and Slovenia .
The castle with a hook-shaped floor plan had the Styrian mercenary leader Ulrich Pessnitzer built in 1469 . Since 1607 it was owned by the Batthyánys and served as alternative quarters for the dilapidated Neuhaus Castle . During the religious war from 1618 to 1648 the castle was a refuge for many Styrian Protestants. In the 17th century it was made Baroque. Tabor Castle was later the seat of the rulership and was finally converted into a residence for the estate employees. The oldest building in the Jennersdorf district today was permanently inhabited until 1964. The castle, which was owned by the Batthyánys until 2019, was leased by the Rupprecht family. It was restored in 2002 and 2003. The castle has been owned by the Province of Burgenland since August 2019.
The courtyard of the castle with two-storey arcades is used in summer for the performance of an opera and for numerous other events. The round tower with the heraldic cartouche is also worth seeing . The castle now houses a Heurigen restaurant .
