The Tandalier Castle (formerly Sulzberghof called) is located in the town of Radstadt in Pongau from Salzburg (Tandalierstraße 11).

history

The previous building of Tandalier Castle was the Sulzberghof; According to the records of the court master's office of the Archdiocese of Salzburg, this had been in the possession of the TÄNDERER / TANDALIER family since 1450. In 1537 the property came into the ownership of the Counts of Schernberg through an exchange for the arable estates Enns and Niederteufenbach. This exchange resulted in a long dispute over the allocation of alpine pastures, which was only resolved in 1553. At the time, confirmed the court chamber that "the curia Sultzperg" the younger William, son of the deceased in the meantime Count Wilhelm von Schernberg as free self is entered is passed and an equivalent estate in the prince-Urbar. The Schernberg family worked for the Archbishop of Salzburg as carers for centuries .

Around 1569 the property was converted into a Renaissance palace by Graf Christoph zu Schernberg and his housewife Katharina von Paumgarten . An alliance coat of arms of the Schernberg-Paumgarten on a ceiling tram on the 1st floor bears witness to this. However, the other furnishings of the castle (painted and inlaid coats of arms and portals) were sold to the owner of Arenberg Castle between 1860 and 1862 . The Schernberger family got into economic difficulties due to failed mining ventures and so the property had to be sold to the market and castle judge Burkhart Schwaiger in 1611. This is followed by his son Blasius Schwaiger, cathedral capital Kastner and Mautner zu Mauterndorf . Around 1680, Sebastian Pürcher, mountain administrator in Flachau , bought the castle. His son then converted the ground floor rooms into an inn. In 1753, Johann Josef Gottlieb Grimming auf Niederrain and Herr zu Emslieb were named here as the owner . In 1763, the court councilor of Salzburg had the Tandalier estate from the Grimming manor to tender for sale.

From 1839 the owners changed very often, not necessarily for the best of the property. A carpentry shop was housed here in 1866, and in 1873 the castle served as accommodation for columns of Italian workers employed in the construction of the Enns Railway.

In 1929 the federal state of Lower Austria bought the castle and had it converted into a youth home under the administration of the Lower Austrian State Youth Office. From 1930 the state of Austria took over the property.

Tandalier Castle today

As a result of the renovation in 1569, the original farm was raised by one floor and a tower was built on each edge of the building, with the two on the north side having a rectangular floor plan and those on the south side designed as round towers. A two-story arcade front was drawn in between the south-facing towers, which is closed off by a wooden corridor on the second floor. The towers are covered with tent or conical roofs, the castle building itself is covered with a hipped roof.

In 1972 there was a major renovation to be used as a youth home. The castle, which had only a third of the basement, was completely basement. On the individual floors, the large dormitories were converted into rooms with their own showers. In 1985 the gym and the newly built farm building were inaugurated.

Today, the Radstadt Federal School Camp, which is assigned to the Federal Ministry for Education and Art , is housed here .
