Ulft Castle
The Ulft castle was located in the east of the village of the same name Ulft the municipality Oude IJsselstreek in the Dutch province of Gelderland .
history
The oldest mention comes from the year 1236 when the manor was described as a Geldrisches fief in the old glory of Ulft. It was built as a motte , strategically well located north of the confluence of the Aa-strang in the Oude IJssel . During the Eighty Years War the castle was besieged several times. Well-known residents were those of Heeckeren and later Wilhelm IV. Von dem Bergh with his family. After his death, the family retreated to Huis Bergh to the west . Ulft Castle was mainly only used as a hunting castle and was neglected. In 1892 the remains of the ruins were razed and a farm was built on the square in 1896.
