Ulft is a village in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek in the Dutch province of Gelderland . It has 10,440 inhabitants, making it the largest town in the municipality that was newly formed in 2005. Before that it belonged to the community of Gendringen . Ulft is located directly on the river Alte Issel ( Dutch Oude IJssel ).

Districts

Besides the village of the same name, Ulft consists of two buurtschappen (literally: neighborhoods), Oer and De Pol. Oer in the north of Ulft takes its name from the iron ore that gave the place some industry, namely the former DRU iron foundry. In 2009 this became the DRU Cultuurfabriek , the largest cultural center in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek.

On the second Sunday in July, a traditional fair is celebrated, organized by the three Ulft rifle clubs.

history

High and late medieval news are connected with Reginmuod von Ulft. The death of "our sister Reginmuod" is recorded in the oldest book of the dead of the Xanten monastery on November 13th, the day of St. Brictius, between 1075 and 1099. In a more recent Book of the Dead (II) 1284/86 it is noted that the collegiate treasurer has to pay out 10 light pfennigs from the income of this foundation ("de Ulvethe", i.e. von Ulft) to the canons for the funeral of this founder. There was a dispute over the foundation between the Xanten monastery and Theodericus de Ulvete in 1132. Around 1400 "Richmoet" (g / ch-gutturalization and oe / u-spelling refer to a Dutch scribe) is connected with another donor, Imeza von Dorsten. There has been an extensive literature on identities by historians since 1863. The Ulfter founder and the foundations later disappeared from the Xanten registers, probably because after the Reformation no payment to the Catholic monastery was made. In 1324 Evert von Ulft was the son-in-law of the Döring family (south of Borken ). There he founded a new line from Ulft. *

Ulft Castle has existed at the confluence of the Alter Issel and the Aa-Strang since 1236 . It had a water mill for grinding grain. At the end of the 16th century Ulft slowly developed into a village. Growth increased faster from around 1850, especially after 1945.
