The Schlossbauverein Burg an der Wupper e. V. is a voluntary association for the preservation of Burg Castle in Solingen . As a shareholder, he is today, in addition to the cities of Wuppertal , Solingen and Remscheid , also co-operator of the castle.

history

After its heyday in the Middle Ages, Burg Castle deteriorated more and more into ruin within about 200 years from the Thirty Years War . In 1850 it was finally ready for demolition. But in 1882, thanks to the Barmer architect Gerhard August Fischer, the first ideas and designs for the reconstruction of the castle came up.

On August 3, 1887, under the direction of the Wermelskirchen factory owner Julius Schumacher, the "Association for the Preservation of the Castle Ruins of Burg an der Wupper" was founded. He set himself the task of rebuilding and restoring the castle as true to the original as possible with the help of many plans and drawings from the past. This was made possible by a lot of donations from the population. In 1897 the association was finally named "Schlossbauverein Burg an der Wupper e. V. “at.

In 1914, a large part of the construction work was completed, in which, in addition to the association, many regional artists had participated.

Even today, the association, which has around 500 members, is largely financed by donations; only 15 percent of the costs are covered by grants. Axel Kolodziej was the managing director until March 2011 . He succeeded Stefan Geppert (2005–2008) and Dirk Soechting, who held this position for 25 years before Geppert.
