Otto Witte (pedagogue)

Otto Witte (born August 14, 1903 in Prisannewitz ; † March 26, 1997 in Iserlohn ) was a German educator and teacher.

Life

After training as a primary school teacher in Tribsees , Witte studied history, English, psychology and philosophy in Jena and Rostock from 1926 to 1930. He completed his studies with a doctorate to become Dr. phil. from. He worked as a teacher at the grammar schools in Bützow , Wismar and Schwerin . In 1935 he became a lecturer in educational science at the Rostock University for Teacher Education (HfL). B. on National Socialist education for the people and youth . From 1939 he headed the first state advanced course in Mecklenburg for obtaining a university entrance qualification at an HfL. In 1940 Witte was drafted into the Wehrmacht , in 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, and in 1950 he was released. After the war he was a grammar school teacher in Iserlohn from 1950 to 1968 and had a teaching position at the PH Dortmund. He published more than 100 articles on the history of Mecklenburg and was federal cultural advisor for the Mecklenburg Landsmannschaft . For his services to the displaced and refugees in Westphalia , he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . Since 1977 he has also been the holder of the Mecklenburg Culture Prize of the Landsmannschaft Mecklenburg.
