history
On March 29, 1911, a "Schlosshotel Aktiengesellschaft" was founded in Gotha. After the successful purchase and demolition of the houses Karolinenplatz 1 and Sieblebener Wall 1–3, the new hotel was built in just 10 months according to plans by the Berlin architects Hart & Lesser . On January 26, 1912, the opening took place in the presence of the Duchess Viktoria Adelheid . The management was carried out by the " court trainer " MD Schmidt, who had leased the hotel for 15 years.
After the First World War , the hotel was taken over by the well-known hotelier Georg Kossenhaschen , who also u. a. took over the Erfurter Hof in Erfurt , the Magdeburger Hof in Magdeburg and numerous other gastronomic facilities and continued to run it as a luxury hotel. The guests included u. a. 1926 the well-known impostor Harry Domela . Kossenhaschen died in 1931.
During the time of National Socialism , the " Fritz Sauckel Foundation - Achievement of the Creators " became a major shareholder of the stock corporation. In 1939 Sauckel commissioned the Weimar architect Georg Ostertag with a thorough renovation and modernization. The hall was torn down and should be replaced by a much larger hall after the house at Sieblebener Strasse 40 was demolished. It was also possible to read “The external remodeling will also go down to the basics. The roof, the window coverings, the cornices on the top floor, all the plaster, the driveway and the semicircular porch will have to disappear and make way for new shapes. “Even during the war, the work was continued as“ particularly important in terms of state policy and cannot be postponed ” until July 1942, with 27 forced laborers also being used. What remained was an unfinished building ruin, which only had a shell value of 214,000 Reichsmarks. The headquarters of the foundation was relocated to Weimar on December 13, 1943 .
During the GDR era, the house was nationalized and rebuilt for office purposes. The "VEB Ratio-Projekt" moved in, which planned and implemented industrial plants and called itself "Gotha Engineering GmbH" after the fall of the Wall. This was followed by city authorities and finally a renewed modernization of the entire house for use by the city administration. The building called New Town Hall with the address Ekhofplatz 24 houses u. a. the entire technical area and the citizens' office .
