The Schlosspark Klessen is a listed park in the Kleßen part of the municipality of Kleßen-Görne in Brandenburg .

location

It is located southwest of Klessen Castle , as the park for which it was created, and covers an area of 38 hectares. The park stretches to the southwest to the Kleßener See . To the east of the park runs the street that connects Kleßen with Dicke . The castle also has a Klessen castle garden , which, however, is a separate green area from the park.

history

The park was owned by the von Bredow family, who also owned the neighboring castle. This had the green area laid out around 1797 in the style of an English landscape park . Special structures such as a tea pavilion , a grotto and an observation tower were built in the park. In addition, moats were built. A network of paths leading south from the castle into the park opened up this area. A small vineyard was also laid out. After the end of the Second World War , the castle and park owners were expropriated.

In the period that followed, no one took care of the maintenance or care of the existing park, which was overgrown. In addition , a high-voltage line run through the eastern part of the park in the 1960s significantly impaired the appearance. All that remained of the grotto was stone fragments and a paving . However, many old trees such as oak, linden and beech have been preserved from the former tree population.

In 1993, Berlin-based privateers acquired the palace, which was in dire need of renovation, and later also bought the park area. They restored the buildings and began to cultivate the parking areas again. In 2006 the park was placed under monument protection despite the changes that had taken place. There are plans to gradually restore the original park structures.
