The castle portal in Vic-sur-Seille , a French commune in the Moselle department in the historic Lorraine region , was built in the 14th century. The castle portal was added to the list of architectural monuments in France in 1930 as Monument historique .

history

The castle of the bishops of Metz was built in the 12th century and enlarged in the 13th century.

Under Bishop Dietrich Bayer von Boppard (bishop from 1365 to 1384) the moat was laid out, towers were built and the living quarters were enlarged. Apart from the portal, only small remains of this have survived.

The park of the facility is now public.

The magnificent portal of the castle, which has a well-fortified character, was built under the bishop Dietrich Bayer von Boppard in the second half of the 14th century and replaced a smaller previous building. The portal with machicolations had a drawbridge over the moat.

In 2008 the portal was extensively renovated.
