Schlotte
A Schlotte is a natural cave in the Karst Mountains .
Schlotten are created by washing out the surrounding rock, mainly in anhydrite or limestone . There are many developed chimneys in the Mansfelder Land , where they were approached by copper slate mining. Water-filled chimneys pose a threat to mining and have been responsible for some water ingress into mines .
The Schlotten have mine, funnel, boiler or cylinder shape and arise mainly in karst areas through the expansion of existing columns, fissures or sinkholes . In many cases, soil and sediments have been preserved in karst chutes , which allow conclusions to be drawn about the history of the landscape.
