The Schmalegrundskopf is a 770 m high mountain in the Thuringian Forest . It is located in the Hildburghausen district , Schleusegrund municipality , immediately north of the Schönbrunn dam .

The ridge of the Schmalegrundskopf branches off from the Großer Burgberg ( 817  m ) on Rennsteig to the south and becomes west of the Gabel , east of the Tanne and to the south of the Schönbrunn dam, which dams both streams and their receiving water lock . Its southern summit Hohenofenkopf (approx. 750 m), 2 km away, is surrounded by the dam at 270 °.

Neighboring mountains are in the northwest, beyond the fork, the Vordere Arolsberg ( 718  m ), in the west, across the lake, the Schmiedswiesenkopf (784 m) and in the east, beyond the fir, the Kohlhieb ( 790  m ) on the Rennsteig, which follows Southwest into Schwefelkopf (774 m) and Sommerberg (756 m), which are separated by the northeast arm of the lake from the Hohenofenkopf, which they face to the southeast.
