Sulfur head

The sulfur head is a 773.7  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the district of Hildburghausen in Thuringia at the interface between the Thuringian Forest and the Thuringian Slate Mountains . It is located in the municipality of Schleusegrund, directly on the southern bank of the Schönbrunn dam , just over 1 km northwest of the village of Gießübel .

The back of the Schwefelkopf branches off at the Rennsteig from the Kohlhieb ( 789.5  m ) to the southwest and continues in the Sommerberg ( 755.9  m ). It is bounded to the northwest by the fir and finally the northeast arm of the reservoir, to the west by the outflowing lock . In the southeast the Neubrunn is bounded up to its confluence with the lock in Schönbrunn (also municipality Schleusegrund ).

Neighboring mountains

To the south, beyond the Neubrunn, is the 740 m high Holzberg from the Simmersberg massif , to the west, beyond the lock, is the 768.1 m high Kalte Staudenkopf . Beyond or within the Schönbrunn dam, the Schmalegrundskopf (approx. 770 m) follows in the north, or initially its approx. 20 m lower southern summit, Hohenofenkopf .

The Rennsteig leads east to the Löffelberg, the westernmost foothill of the Eselsberg massif, further over the High Thuringian Slate Mountains.
