The Kalte Staudenkopf is 768  m above sea level. NHN high mountain on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest in the district of Hildburghausen , Thuringia . It is the southernmost main summit of an approximately 8 km long ridge that stretches between the valleys of Nahe and Trenkbach / Schleuse from the Großer Hundskopf ( 824  m ) on the Rennsteig via the resorts of Allzunah and Frauenwald ( Ilm district ) to ( Schleusegrund -) Steinbach am Südhang and Waldau in the valley of the lock pulls. The middle main summit is the Schmiedswiesenkopf ( 784  m ), to the north the Große Riesenhaupt ( 764  m ) with the “ ski jump house ” in the south of Frauenwald. In the north of the resort, 775  m are reached, further north 793  m , which is not noticeable in the immediate vicinity of the Hundskopf.

A road leads over the ridge, which is closed in snowy winters between Frauenwald and Steinbach. The district boundary to the Ilm district lies directly to the north of the temporarily closed section, to the south of Frauenwald.

The Kalte Staudenkopf has an antenna on its summit.

More peaks

The 712 m high Sommerberg near Schleusingerneundorf is a southwestern branch of the Schmiedswiesenkopf .

The Kalte Staudenkopf itself turns into significantly lower secondary peaks (below 700 m) after Steinbach , which reach a valley level of around 400 m at Waldau. To the east of Steinbach is the 710 m high beech head , to the west of the place the completely cleared goat's back (661 m), named after its shape, and to the west the salt lick head (640 m).

The Kalte Staudenkopf can be reached by motor vehicle from the five-armed signpost , which is 736.5 m above sea level on the Steinbach-Frauenwald road. To the west of its summit, just below it, is a meadow with a panoramic view of the Adlersberg mountains to the west (with Neuhauser Hill , 849.9 and 891 m respectively), Großer Eisenberg (907 m), Großer Beerberg (983 m), Schneekopf ( 978 m) and Großer Finsterberg (944 m) as well as to the singularity Dolmar (740 m) outside the Thuringian Forest and to the Gleichbergen (642 and 679 m).
