The narrow-gauge railway Estcourt – Weenen was a 47 km long narrow-gauge railway in South Africa operated from 1907 to 1983 with a gauge of 610 mm (2 feet ).
Route
Between 1907 and 1983 the narrow-gauge railway connected Estcourt with Weenen . It led in a north-westerly direction from Estcourt via Scheepersfontein, Peniston, Haviland, Wondergeluk, Stanley, Mielietuin, Mona and New Furrow to Weenen.
history
The narrow-gauge railway was mainly used to transport agricultural products and therefore was jokingly Cabbage Express ( carbon-Express called). This route was the first narrow-gauge railway of the Natal Government Railways .
After their closure, their tracks were dismantled. The locomotive NGG 11 No. 55 was exhibited on a pedestal in Weenen and later renovated. It is used today (2009) on the Patons Country Narrow Gauge Railway .
