The Butterfly House is a butterfly zoo in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City . It is located in the northwest wing of the palm house on the edge of the castle garden .

The palm house in its current form was built in 1901 according to a design by the architect Friedrich Ohmann and is 128 meters long and has a floor area of ​​around 2,050 m². After it was closed in 1988 for security reasons, a general renovation costing around 13 million euros took place. In 1998 the palm house could be reopened, since then the butterfly house has been housed in the left, northwest wing, which has an area of ​​280 m².

The free-flying in the butterfly house around 400 butterflies of the tropics are 150 different kinds attributable, none of which under the protection of species falls. The interior of the greenhouse is designed like a tropical rainforest and has a constant temperature of around 26 degrees and a humidity of around 80%.
