The Warsaw Blacksmith Museum (Polish: Muzeum Kowalstwa w Warszawie ) is a craft museum consisting of a 30 square meter forge (workshop) from the beginning of the 20th century (building reconstructed, interior partially original). It opened in 1999 and is privately owned. It is the only museum of its kind in Warsaw . The forge is still in operation today.

The museum

The construction of the smithy and the establishment of the museum go back to the initiative of the couple Eleonora and Zdzisław Gałecki, who continued one of the oldest forges in Mazovia here . Parts of the building, which was rebuilt according to the original design, belonged to the smithy of the village of Służew , which was merged in the Warsaw districts of Mokotów and Ursynów (Stary Służew) in the 20th century . The forge is located at the intersection of the busy Dolina Służewiecka and Aleja Wilanowska streets below the Św Church. Katarzyna and thus also below the embankment of the Vistula .

The statute of the private museum was approved by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage ; the museum sponsor is a member of the Association of Open Air Museums in Poland (Polish: Stowarzyszenie Muzeów na Wolnym Powietrzu w Polsce ).

The equipment includes a two-chamber bellows that heats the forge , a grindstone , various anvils , pliers, forging hammers and hand drills. The forge is surrounded by various historical agricultural implements, a dovecote and a small standing chapel of St. Joseph. In addition to the permanent exhibition, sculptures and paintings on the subject are temporarily presented. The small museum is part of the series of events in Warsaw Museums “Noc Muzeów” ( Night of Museums ).
