The ornamental tree snake ( Chrysopelea paradisi ) is a species up to 1.20 meters long from the family of the adder . Like all ornamental tree snakes , this species is also capable of short gliding flights from an elevated position.
Appearance
These animals have a black and yellow scale dress, which is provided with conspicuous bright yellow or orange colored spots on the back. The head is very flat.
Way of life
These animals can widely spread their bodies to cover long distances between the trees; in doing so, her belly arches inwards to allow the largest possible wing for the partially steered gliding flight. This enables them to cover distances of up to 20 meters or more to change the tree. With the help of their keel-shaped belly shield, they can more easily climb the bark of trees by pressing it against the trunk and hooking it onto the existing irregularities of the surface. In the treetops of higher trees they hunt prey such as lizards, bats and other animals. This type of snake is only slightly poisonous.
distribution and habitat
The ornamental tree snake occurs in Southeast Asia from the Philippines to Indonesia . She lives in the local forests.
Reproduction
The clutch of the animals includes up to twelve eggs.
Hazards and protective measures
Since no endangerments are known for this species and it also occurs in protected areas, it is listed by the IUCN as Least Concern .
