The 8 to 16 cm long birds live in the forest and bushland of tropical Africa . Lappetcatchers have brightly colored flaps of skin around their eyes and have many features in common with woollycatchers , such as long, fluffy rump feathers that can be placed over their backs, and sounds made by flapping their wings and semi-melodious chants. Insects are either caught in flight or picked from the ground. Two to five eggs are laid in cup-shaped nests .
