Andrij Oleksijowytsch Worobej ( Ukrainian Андрій Олексійович Воробей , scientific. Transliteration Andrij Oleksijovyč Vorobej ; Russian Андрей Алексеевич Воробей , Andrei Alexeyevich Worobej * 29. November 1978 in Donetsk ) is a Ukrainian football player . The striker is a long-time Ukrainian international.

Career

Vorobej was under contract with Shakhtar Donetsk from 1994 to 2007 and joined the Donetsk professional team in 1997. There he scored 113 goals in 291 games, including 80 goals in 219 games in the first Ukrainian league. With Shakhtar Donetsk he won the Ukrainian championship twice (2002; 2005) and three times the Ukrainian Cup (2001; 2002; 2004). He was also voted the best player in the Ukrainian league in 2000. A year later he was also the top scorer with 20 goals.

For the 2007/08 season he moved to league rivals Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk , two years later to Arsenal Kiev .

He has played 68 games for the Ukrainian national team and scored nine goals. He was also appointed to the 23-man squad for the 2006 World Cup by Ukrainian national coach Oleh Blochin , but remained goalless in his four appearances. He made his debut for the national team in May 2000 against England .
