Schnellen is played with the Salzburger Blatt , a regional variant of the Bavarian paper . The game includes 33 cards, seven to ace of each suit and also the weli , which always follows the trump ace as the second highest trump.

Card distribution

The dealer gives three to five players in turn three cards, then turns one face up for himself and then gives each two more cards. So he himself has six cards and the other players each have five cards. The exposed card determines the trump suit.

Game objective and gameplay

Each player initially has a set number of points (often 15, 21 or 25) that he has to play down as quickly as possible. Each stitch deducts one point. If a player doesn't take a single trick, he will jump five points up. The winner is the one who has reached zero points first.

All players except the dealer have the option to get out if they still have more than five points, then they only receive one plus point. If you want to get off, you will be asked clockwise. A teammate must stay in the game.

variants

As with many traditional card games, there are also countless variants for "Schnelln":

  • The trump suit can also be determined by bidding: the player who bids the most tricks may choose the trump suit. However, if he does not reach his required number of stitches, he jumps up five points. Bidding is clockwise, the dealer bids last. Whoever wants to bid must outbid the previous bid. Only the dealer can take over the game with the same number of tricks as the highest bid. The highest bidder can also play without a trump. They say: "I play high." Then the Weli is the highest card in the game. There is an option to re-bid if nobody announces more than two tricks. The points in the next game then count twice, with hearts four times.
  • Special constellations are considered a competitive game, it is then no longer possible to drop out. Typically this is the case when the open card is a seven or when Acorn is announced. If you have a score of five or less, you are also forced to play.
  • If the trump suit is a heart, all points count double. Each trick subtracts two points. If you jump, you jump 10 points upwards.
  • If the trump is determined, it is possible to exchange up to three of the cards received. It is not possible to exchange four pieces unless the trump card is openly shown. If all five cards are exchanged, the player is dealt six cards, one of which must be discarded before the start of the round. The highest bidder starts swapping, then it continues clockwise. If there are five players, the last player may only have a limited number of exchange cards available.
  • Often, according to the basic rule of compulsory color, compulsory stinging is played. This means that every player has to admit color to the card that was thrown out. If he has a higher card of the suit available, he must throw the higher one. If he has only one lower one available, he must throw the lower one. Only if he does not have a suit in his hand can he trump with trump, or even have to, if he can.
