The Scholem Alejchem Museum ( Ukrainian Музей Шолом-Алейхема ) is a museum in Kiev dedicated to the life and work of the Ukrainian , Yiddish-speaking writer Scholem Alejchem .

The museum is a branch of the Museum of the History of Kiev and is located on Velyka Vasylkivska Street ( Велика Васильківська вулиця ) number 5a near Bessarabska Square in Kiev's Pechersk district .

It contains over 500 exhibits, including Jewish ritual objects and objects of traditional Jewish life, mazewas , old Jewish books and manuscripts. Excerpts from films and performances of the works of Scholem Aleichem can be seen on the monitors installed in the hall. The Scholem Alejchem Museum is open every day except Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum opened on March 2, 2009 to mark the 150th anniversary of the artist's birth.

President of the Central Council of Jews in Ukraine Ylja Levytas ( Илья Левитас ) said at the opening that the planning of the museum had already started in 1956, when the authorities were not even ready to discuss it.
