Entrance to Schoried

Schoried is a part of the municipality of Alpnach in the canton of Obwalden .

geography

Schoried is located about 1.5 kilometers southwest of the village of Alpnach on terrain that rises towards Mittaggüpfi at an altitude of 556  m above sea level. M. To the southwest, the closed development of Schoried is limited by the Grosse Schliere . In this section, the Grosse Schliere is tamed by various barriers due to the large debris loads that occur during floods, and the stream bed is hard-built. A small water channel branches off the river to the west of the center of Schoried. This Sagenbach flows right through Schoried and on to Alpnach, where it used to drive a mill and the turbine of a parquet factory. The municipality of Alpnach is also south of the Grosse Schliere, including the Guber quarry , which can also be counted as part of Schoried. To the south, the Kleine Schliere forms the outskirts.

Schoried is not an administratively or politically delimited unit from Alpnach, so the boundaries are not precisely defined. The open pastureland between Alpnach and Schoried has steadily decreased due to zoning and subsequent developments, so that both districts are visually growing together.

history

Schenried in the 14th century and Schonriedt or Schonryedt in the 16th century are documented as early spelling of the place name . According to an entry in the Geographical Lexicon of Switzerland (GLS) from 1902, the place or a predecessor of the place was called Schössenried and was a parish village that was largely destroyed by a flood of the Great Schliere. However, this information in the GLS can be doubted as it does not match the documented spelling of the place mentioned above.

Together with the courtyards that are scattered further up, known as Schoriedberg or Schoriederberg , Schoried consisted of 61 houses around 1902 and had 350 adult Catholic residents.

In June 1995 Schoried received a village square, which was laid out next to the village chapel for 1.7 million francs.

Sights and customs

The village chapel of St. Theodule was built in 1711 by Joseph Brüöl the Bregenz Forest and was the cartridge to St. Bishop Theodul (popularly called St. Joder) and Hl. Rochus . According to the year book of 1612, there was a chapel in Schoried earlier, but a little further up in the area of the Lindenmattli.

In 1979 the chapel was placed under monument protection and, after a partial renovation, was re-consecrated in honor of St. Brother Klaus and Fidelis von Sigmaringen . The now four cartridges should help comprehensively: Rochus protected against the plague, Theodul in storms, Brother Klaus brings peace and Fidelis stands for steadfastness in faith. The chapel has three altars. The chapel patron St. Theodul is depicted on the high altar, and Maria's coronation on the fruit.

The chapel is furnished with two late Gothic figures of St. Wolfgang and St. Nicholas of Myra , a baroque Pietà , the figure of the rifleman saint Sebastian and late baroque stations of the cross. The ceiling paintings in the nave and choir show scenes from the rich legends surrounding St. Theodul. In the roof turret with a late Gothic cross hang two bells from 1669 and 1769 with the inscriptions: "AVE MARIA GRATIA PLEN ILR" (Jost Ludwig Rüttimann) and "Peter Ludwig Kaiser poured me in 1769". For the 300th anniversary of the chapel, a complete renovation took place in 2011. The chapel received a new lighting concept and a new altar, which releases the choir room in its old spaciousness. Both were designed by the Sarner artist Christian Kathriner, the consecration was carried out by the Engelberg abbot Christian Meyer.

The Schoried alpine brotherhood traditionally organizes an alpine milking after the alpine drive in Schoried, which is the last in the canton of Obwalden . After attending mass in the morning in the decorated chapel, a soup is eaten and the obligatory group and family pictures are taken. In the afternoon, the alpine farmers move into the ring next to the chapel, where the assembled festival community listens to the sayings of the wild (Wildwyb and Wildmaa). In Schoried and Alpnach there is a special feature that these sayings are not recited, but rather sung in the manner of the alpine pastors . The children are chased by the savages with loud shouts, and finally sweets are distributed.
