The Scottish National Rugby League team represents Scotland internationally in the sport of rugby league . For many decades, Scottish players competed exclusively for the British national rugby league team . However, since 1995 the parts of the United Kingdom ( England , Wales and Scotland) have their own national teams for all major tournaments. The Scottish team is also known by the nickname "The Bravehearts".

history

On August 13, 1995, the Scottish rugby league team completed their first international match and was defeated by Ireland in Dublin with 22:26. For the 1995 World Cup were Bravehearts not invited. At their World Cup premiere five years later, the team retired after three defeats in three preliminary round games without a chance. In 2008 they managed to win the group stage against Fiji , but again the group stage was the final destination for the Scots. In 2013 , the Bravehearts were much improved and moved into the quarterfinals, where they were clearly defeated by New Zealand . Scotland confirmed the positive trend in 2014, when the first ever Rugby League European Cup was the greatest success in the young team's history. In 2016 Scotland took part in the prestigious Four Nations tournament for the first time , where the Bravehearts managed a remarkable 18:18 draw against the highly favored New Zealanders in Workington .
