Danny Brough (born January 15, 1983 in Dewsbury ) is a British rugby league player. He plays in the Super League for the Huddersfield Giants and has played for the Scottish national team since 2004.

Career

Brough began his career as a junior player with the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, but did not manage to get into the men's team, so he left the club and signed a contract with the second division club Dewsbury Rams . He then played for the York City Knights and finally made his Super League debut with Hull FC .

In 2005 he won the Challenge Cup final with Hull against the Leeds Rhinos , in which he scored 4 raises and a drop goal. A year later, despite the fact that he would get a lower salary there, he moved to the second division Castleford Tigers , with whom he made promotion to the Super League in 2007.

In 2008 he moved to the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats where he became a key player and won the Albert Goldthorpe Medal . In the same year he took part in the Rugby League World Cup as captain of the Scottish national team.

In 2009 he announced that he wanted to switch to the English national team, as it was impossible for him as a member of the Scottish national team to take part in major international tournaments. He was not selected for the English national team and did not take part in international games for the next 2 years.

He moved to the Huddersfield Giants on March 24, 2010 and was their captain in 2012 after Kevin Brown joined the Widnes Vikings in the middle of the season .

In 2012 he finally became part of the English national team for an International Origin game. However, he did not take part in any other games with England, which is why he returned to the Scottish national team in 2013.

In 2013 he won the Man of Steel Award after the end of the regular Super League season and was the first Super League player to win the Albert Goldthorpe Medal a second time. He was also nominated for the RLIF International Player of the Year Award together with Sonny Bill Williams and Greg Inglis .

In 2014 he won the European Cup with Scotland and was also named "Player of the Tournament".

After the end of the 2015 season, in which the Giants were eliminated in the semi-finals against Wigan, he decided to take part again with Scotland in the European Cup instead of a break until the next season. He was Scotland's 2015 European Cup captain.
