Michael Dobson (born May 29, 1986 in Junee , New South Wales ) is an Australian rugby league player. He has played for the Salford Red Devils in the Super League since 2015 .
Career
Dobson was born in Junee , a small town in Riverina , and attended Erindale College in Canberra. Meanwhile, he played junior rugby for the Junee Diesels and the Canberra Raiders . In 2003 and 2004 he played for the Australian Schoolboys.
In 2006 the Raiders loaned him to the Dragons Catalans , as they needed a replacement for the injured connector Stacey Jones .
Through impressive performances with the Dragons Hobson attracted the attention of numerous Super League clubs, so that he signed a contract with the Wigan Warriors in May 2006 . There was some controversy about the contract, however, as he was not legally allowed to play as he did not have a work permit. The Warriors finally managed to get him a work permit, albeit under controversial circumstances. Before Dobson joined the Warriors, they were bottom of the table and six points away from the nearest team. He played an essential part in ensuring that Wigan did not end the season on the relegation place. In 2006, Dobson was the best kicker in the Super League with a hit rate of 84% and had the same hit rate as Hazem El Masri , the best kicker in the NRL .
After the end of the 2006 season, Dobson moved to the Canberra Raiders and was the Raiders' best kicker in the first season. In April 2008, his contract with the Raiders was dissolved, whereupon he signed a contract for 2½ years with the Hull Kingston Rovers . Other Super League clubs like Hull FC and Harlequins RL were also interested in him.
In the 2009 season, the Rovers made it to fourth place in their third Super League season , partly because of his performance, which earned him the Albert Goldthorpe Medal .
In 2013 he played a game for the Exiles against England and signed a one-year contract with the Newcastle Knights on June 27, 2013 .
In 2014 he participated with the Knights in the first edition of the NRL Auckland Nines . In the regular season he played 6 games, including one against his former club Canberra Raiders .
On June 26, 2014, he signed a four-year contract with the Salford Red Devils .
